Welcome to New Town Counseling Center, an innovative counseling practice located in the heart of Williamsburg, Virginia. We offer a variety of services to meet the needs of children, adolescents, adults of all ages, couples, and families.

COUNSELORS

Jonathan Clayton, LPC

Jonathan is a Licensed Professional Counselor in the Commonwealth of Virginia and a National Certified Counselor. He earned a Master’s Degree in Marriage and Family Counseling from the College of William & Mary and has experience working with children, teenagers, couples, individuals, and families.

Jonathan utilizes a Person-centered and Strengths-based approach, with a strong Systems focus to facilitate individual resiliency and continued growth. He has supported individuals working through ADHD, ODD, ASD, anxiety, depression, self-esteem issues, as well as other issues.

Cynthia Trower, MA, LPC, LMHC

Cynthia is a Licensed Professional Counselor in the Commonwealth of Virginia and a Licensed Mental Health Counselor in the State of Washington. She earned a Master's Degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Regent University and has experience working with children, adolescents, adults, and geriatrics.

Cynthia utilizes Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Person-centered, Neurofeedback, and Mindfulness approaches as well as others to meet the needs of her clients. She has extensive training in Neurotherapy and Trauma.

She has supported individuals working through ADHD, anxiety, autism, autoimmunity, chronic pain and illness, depression, development, gender, grief/loss, migraine, PTSD, relationships, self-esteem, sexuality, somatic issues, stress, suicide, transitions, trauma (emotional, physical, sexual) and women's issues.

Dan McKeal, LPC, LMHC

Dan is a Licensed Professional Counselor in the Commonwealth of Virginia, as well as a Licensed Mental Health Counselor in the state of Florida. He earned his Master’s degree in Mental Health Counseling from Nova Southeastern University. He has clinical experience working with teens, adults, individuals and couples.

Dan utilizes a client centered approach. He tailors his treatment plans and techniques to each respective client based on their needs. He utilizes and recommends techniques ranging from Adlerian to Mindfulness to Yoga. He has worked with client populations dealing with anxiety, depression, grief, substance abuse, anger, trauma, relationships, and domestic and child abuse. He has several years of experience with in-patient populations in residential treatment centers working with individuals and groups.

Isaiah Day, LPC

Isaiah is a Licensed Professional Counselor in the State of Virginia. He earned a Master's of Education from the College of William & Mary in Clinical and Mental Health Counseling, and has worked in a variety of settings, including acute care, residential treatment, intensive in-home services, and outpatient counseling.

Isaiah strongly emphasizes the value of a Person-Centered, Cognitive-Behavioral, and Narrative approach to support both individuals and families in making positive changes for themselves. He also prioritizes the connection between the mind and the body for wellness for the complete individual. Isaiah has experience working with children, adolescents, and adults diagnosed with ADHD, DMDD, ODD, PTSD, Depressive disorders, Anxiety disorders, and Substance use disorders.

Sarah Clayton, LPC

Sarah is a Licensed Professional Counselor in the Commonwealth of Virginia. She earned a Master’s Degree in Marriage and Family Counseling from the College of William & Mary in 2015 and has experience working with children, adolescents, individuals, parents, couples, and families.

Sarah utilizes Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and Strengths-based approaches, with an emphasis on Family Systems. She has supported individuals and families working through ADHD, ODD, OCD, trauma, anxiety, depression, self-esteem issues, as well as other issues. Sarah specializes in working with children and adolescents with emotional and behavioral disorders, Anxiety related disorders, Trauma, and Perinatal Mood and Anxiety Disorders.

Malcolm Keeton, LPC

Malcolm received his Bachelor’s degree in Psychology in 2013 from The College of William and Mary and his Master’s degree in Counseling Psychology from Northeastern University in 2015. He has clinical experience providing individual, group, and family counseling and has worked with children, adolescents, and adults with a wide variety of presenting issues including anxiety, depression, anger management issues, substance abuse, and ASD. He enjoys connecting with families through their strengths and stories to facilitate individual and family growth.

Clinically, he utilizes a Feminist-Ecological framework by addressing and understanding the need to examine human existence on multiple levels while cultivating social and racial justice and social change. He incorporates aspects of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Dialectical Behavior Therapy, and Solution-Focused Family Therapy through the lens of Person-Centered and Strengths-Based perspectives.

Christine Coenen, MA, LPC

Christine received her Master’s degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling in 2022 from Southern New Hampshire University. She has experience working with individuals and groups, and is passionate about helping people get through stressful challenges.

Christine utilizes Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Person centered, and Eye Movement Integration approaches, as well as others to meet the needs of her clients. She has extensive training in Autism and Trauma. She has supported adolescents and adults diagnosed with ASD Level 1, ADHD, anxiety, trauma, depression, anxiety, anger issues, as well as other issues.

Emily Hardin, M.Ed., Licensed Resident in Counseling

Emily earned her Master’s Degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Texas Christian University. She has experience working with teenagers, young adults, university students, and
adults from diverse backgrounds. Emily is passionate about helping her clients reach their
counseling goals through a warm, empathic, and encouraging therapeutic presence.

Emily utilizes Solution Focused, Narrative, and Cognitive Behavioral therapeutic techniques
tailored to fit her individual client’s needs. She believes in the value of hearing her client’s
stories as they have experienced them, and assisting her clients as they strive for their preferred futures.

Emily is passionate about the topics of anxiety, self-esteem, perfectionism, body image concerns, women’s issues, grief, and adjustment to life changes.

Elijah Smith, Licensed Resident in Counseling

Elijah earned his M.Ed in Clinical Mental Health Counseling, with a focus in Military and Veterans Counseling, from the College of William and Mary. He has served 14 years as a member of the United States Navy and has 20 years of experience working in the law enforcement community.

Elijah has a passion for working with multicultural clients and uses both Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and Person-centered approaches. He strives to work with his clients to create a whole person concept to meet each person’s unique individual needs. He has experience working with children, adolescents, teens, and adults.

Rebecca Scoggin, Licensed Resident in Counseling

Rebecca received her Master’s degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Liberty University in 2023. She is certified in Youth Mental Health First Aid and is pursuing certification as an Equine Specialist in Mental Health and Learning (ESMHL) from the Professional Association of Therapeutic Horsemanship International (PATH International).

Rebecca utilizes strengths-based, Cognitive Behavioral, and Person-Centered perspectives in her therapeutic approach. She has experience working with children, adolescents, and members of the veteran’s community, as well as supporting individuals coping with anxiety, depression, and PTSD.

NTCC accepts Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield and related insurance plans.

NTCC accepts Sentara Health Plans.

NTCC is a participating non-network provider with Tricare Humana.

NTCC accepts direct payments from clients at $160.00 per 50 minute session (effective 03/01/2022). We accept MasterCard, Visa, Discover, American Express, cash, and check payments.

In support of our community, NTCC offers reduced rate direct payments with services provided by our Licensed Residents in Counseling and

Counseling Interns.

NTCC is not currently able to accept Medicaid or Medicare plans.
